Brunel Class

Welcome to Brunel class. We are look forward to collaborating with you and your child at the start of this academic year.

Our topics this half term are -

‘The Whistling Monster – Jamila Gaivn,’ a folk tale from Bra.

This will form the basis of our English work for the first few weeks followed by ‘Wheels, Cars, cogs, carousels and things that spin – Tracy Turner’ and information text which makes learning new information fun for children.

We will be working on spellings from Spelling shed and Year 3/4 common exception words. These will be given as homework each week alongside math’s work on Times Tables Rock Stars. As you are aware at the end of Year 4, we have the multiplication tables check. More information will be sent out closer to them time.

PLEASE use every opportunity to practice multiplication facts from 2 – 12. Children should be encouraged to have instant recall of these facts so any activities will help them. Maths this term takes us from place value to addition and subtraction, on to area and then multiplication and division.

In Geography we are starting the project ‘Our planet, our world’, which looks at our local area and compares that to other world locations.

In Science we will be learning about Animal nutrition and the skeletal system.

We will also be talking about relationships in PSHE and learning Spanish vocabulary.

In RE we will complete our work to answer the question – ‘What is the trinity and why is it important to Christians?’.

We ask children to bring reading books into school every day. This sits alongside our ‘Buzz Books’ which children can also borrow and read at home. We will visit the library to change books.

Please share any book your child brings home even if they have chosen something which is above their reading age- enjoy the story together.

The children have done a fantastic job of settling into year 4 and really rose to the challenge of the increase in difficulty and expectations.
